Civil engineers design, build, and supervise infrastructure projects and systems. These projects can range from bridges to airports to entire water supply and sewage systems. Everything about our modern way of living relies on civil engineering from roads to railways.
To become a civil engineer, you need to be creative, innovative, collaborative, and solution focused. If you are a high school student interested in the field, math and physics are important subjects. After high school, you’ll need to complete a degree in civil engineering. There are also many different specialities within civil engineering that you could focus on, such as transportation, structural engineering, or geotechnical engineering.
